Conversations might just be the smallest, biggest thing in transforming your organisation
8 October 2026
We help leaders succeed with their most important transformations. After 30+ years of exploring what actually moves organisations forward, we’ve come to believe that organisations transform through transforming conversations.
Conversations are everywhere in organisations – in planned meetings and spontaneous exchanges, around the office and online, in large gatherings and 1-1s, even individual minds. Whether you consciously realise it or not, you are in constant conversation with yourself, others, and the world around you. Over time, patterns of conversation form and define individual identities and potential, interpersonal relationships and collaboration, and organisational cultures and strategies.Â
Through our work with leaders on transformation, we’ve come to see conversations in terms of four, interdependent domains:
The four domains
My conversation inside me
The conversations you have out loud with the people around you, from informal coffee chats to formal performance reviews.Â
How transformation can happen here: building skillsets and mindsets for engaging in real and courageous conversations (e.g., balancing advocacy and inquiry, cultivating confident humility, embracing vulnerability).Â
My conversations with others
The conversations you have out loud with the people around you, from informal coffee chats to formal performance reviews.Â
How transformation can happen here: building skillsets and mindsets for engaging in real and courageous conversations (e.g., balancing advocacy and inquiry, cultivating confident humility, embracing vulnerability).Â
Our conversations inside the organisation
The conversations you have out loud with the people around you, from informal coffee chats to formal performance reviews.Â
How transformation can happen here: building skillsets and mindsets for engaging in real and courageous conversations (e.g., balancing advocacy and inquiry, cultivating confident humility, embracing vulnerability).Â
Our conversations with the world
The conversation between the organisation and the people you serve, such as customers, constituents, or citizens.Â
How transformation can happen here: contemplating the organisation’s core purpose and reason for being in the world (e.g., reflecting on the most worthwhile problem you can be part of solving, given your unique capabilities).
A changed conversation in any domain can be a catalyst for transformation across the whole organisational system. The impact ripples outward: the conversation inside you shapes how you show up with others, which shapes your organisation, which shapes the conversation you're collectively able to have with the world. The impact also flows in the other direction: the conversations we have with the world reshape our organisations, our organisations reshape how we relate to each other, and those relationships reshape the stories we tell ourselves.Â
Individual, relational, and organisational transformations are intimately interconnected, and conversations are the currency through which they happen. It starts with noticing the conversations you’re having today, across the four domains – and questioning if those are the conversations that will move you forward.
Our conversational beliefs
Organisations are conversations.
Conversations are how we organise, create, and evolve together.
Change is changing conversations.
Conversations are catalysts for organisational transformation.Â
We shape our conversations, and they shape us.
Changing conversations changes us too.Â
Changed conversations are the test of impact.
Any meaningful transformation manifests as a changed conversation.
