The project: Helping the Danish emergency response analyse capacity and response time

The Danish emergency response wanted to create an overview of the combined Danish emergency response units to identify capacity and response time at a national level.

Therefore, Implement supported the Danish emergency response in a project where we analysed the capacity and response time of 350 Danish fire stations.

The project partners used a custom-tailored geographical analysis model to identify a precise driving pattern of emergency vehicles on all 180,000 km of the national road network. Using the model, the Danish emergency response was also able to estimate the exact response time and available capacity (within time horizons of 15, 30 and 45 minutes) for each 250 m2 in Denmark.

The model was validated against actual emergency response times and was found to be highly accurate.

The impact: Creating the first ever national overview of Danish emergency response units

As a result of the project, the Danish emergency response and Implement have created the first ever national overview of the combined forces of all Danish emergency response units. This is an invaluable asset in the future planning of the Danish emergency response sector as it allows the emergency response to easily identify under- and over-served areas of the country.

Based on the new national overview of capacity and response time, it is now possible to make data-driven choices to optimise the safety of citizens and efficient use of material and personnel across Denmark.
