Mini case

A global retailerTransitioning to a new warehouse and distribution footprint

A global retailer and Implement Consulting Group

Helping a global retailer cut both carbon emissions and operating costs

The project

This retailer was expecting significant growth and had already outgrown their existing warehouse. To meet future global demands, the current warehouse footprint had to be evaluated to ensure sufficient capacity and efficiency going forward.

The scope of the project included the future global warehouse and distribution footprint, with the main drivers being:

  • The current warehouse footprint and capacity were unable to meet the expected growth.
  • Future growth and customer requirements were to be met in the most optimal manner.
  • Efficiency was to be ensured in terms of both cost and CO2 footprint.

The impact

  • Annual cost savings of ~10%, growing to ~28% once the full transition is completed.
  • Reduced CO2 footprint of ~16% compared to baseline.
  • Sufficient warehouse capacity was ensured for the next decade.
  • Projection and modelling of future warehouse capacity requirements.
  • Identification of new warehouse locations, automation potential and distribution setups.
  • Creation of business cases and transformation plan.
