Processes delivering strategic impact

Inspiration from three different companies that have achieved strategic impact through a well-designed process setup

More than 75% of all Nordic organisations work on an ongoing basis with their process setup, e.g. designing, improving and governing their processes. Many great results are achieved, mostly at a tactical and operational level. However, only few organisations have managed to take the next step and achieve strategic results through a competitive process setup closely linked to their strategy.

There are several reasons for this, the main one being that we are dealing with complex problems where the solutions require strong sponsorship, methodology and stamina. And yet, they still have to be simple.

The Canadian healthcare provider Northern Health told about their decision to ensure that strategy and strategic goals were implemented at all levels in the organisation through a wellthought-out process setup. DOVISTA, a company in the windows and external doors market, presented how they manage the ongoing roll-out of their SAP system by applying efficient process governance. Ans finally, Chr. Hansen, a global bioscience company, presented how they thought largescale involvement and gamification into their way of implementing a new process setup.

Research shows that 30% of employees receive no information on how to execute the strategy

A well-designed process setup supporting the strategy is driven by the purpose of the company and enables delivery of value to the customers. Designing the process setup starts top-down and provides insights into the overall business processes, products and, lastly, the interlinkage between and attributes of the processes. Finally, a well-designed process setup must be simple.
